Jacopo Paolo Quartirolo studied a text by Rabbi Elia Benamozegh of Livorno on the philosopher Baruch Spinoza and Kabbalistic thought, which was translated into Italian for the first time. Maria Antonini examined the figure of Miriam, focusing on her relationship with her brother Moses as recounted in the Torah and rabbinic tradition. These were the topics of the two theses that were discussed in Rome at the UCEI’s three-year university diploma program in Jewish studies at the beginning of July. The advisors were Professor Massimo Giuliani and Rabbi Michael Ascoli, and the co-advisors were Rav Riccardo Di Segni and Professor Francesca Calabi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“These are two research projects of great interest, both of which were awarded the highest honors, with one receiving distinction. It is always satisfying when our students finish their program so brilliantly,” emphasized Myriam Silvera, the Diploma coordinator. She recounted that these were busy days: eight advanced-level Bible exams were being held, and knowledge of medieval Jewish history and the history of Zionism were soon be assessed in some sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A new enrollment campaign is under way. Courses for the next edition will begin on October 22, just after the Jewish New Year holiday.
