News agencies and national publications picked up his remarks, which were then reposted by dozens of online profiles on Instagram, Facebook (Meta Group), and X. Zucchero cited the figure, linking it to alleged censorship by artists regarding criticism against the Israeli government.
However, these assumptions are neither true nor correct, as demonstrated by publicly accessible data, as well as images and videos from concerts that took place in the last two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International music stars such as Dua Lipa, Oasis, Green Day, and Billie Eilish\u2014who perform worldwide and often sell out shows within hours\u2014have openly criticized Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s government and supported the Palestinian cause without facing repercussions. Claiming that “80% of the music business is in Jewish hands” distorts the reality of the global music industry.
Let’s take a look at the three major labels that hold about two-thirds of the market: Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, and Warner Music Group. These global entities have ownership structures spanning France, China, Japan, and the United States. Among these three labels’ major shareholders, only one is of Jewish origin: Len Blavatnik. Born in Odessa, he is a citizen of both the United States and the United Kingdom. He has controlled Warner Music Group, the world\u2019s third-largest major label with about 16% of the market, through Access Industries since 2011.
The major record labels include Andrea Bocelli, the Rolling Stones, U2, AC\/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Dua Lipa, Beyonc\u00e9, Oasis, and Taylor Swift, among others. These artists have different nationalities, backgrounds, faiths, and political stances. They have never hidden their political sympathies or antipathies toward Donald Trump or Benjamin Netanyahu.
Over the past 20 years, global record labels have undergone a wave of consolidation, primarily due to the technological and commercial development of platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. Universal Music Group (UMG), the world\u2019s leading major label with approximately 34% of the market, is listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. Its main shareholders are the Bollor\u00e9 Group, a French industrial dynasty that holds over 18% of the capital and 80% of the voting rights, and Tencent Holdings, a Chinese tech giant that holds about 11%. Recent news suggests that UMG could be on the verge of a change in ownership following a public offer initiated by Bill Ackman, an American investor of Jewish descent, who currently holds about 10% of the shares through Pershing Square. The offer is worth $64 billion and would entail moving the company to the New York Stock Exchange. Several analysts have pointed out that this deal would be difficult to pull off without the consent of the Bollor\u00e9s, who effectively control the voting rights.
Sony Music Group, the second-largest major label with about 27% of the market, is a division of the Japanese Sony Group. It is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is led by British executive Rob Stringer.
Turning to the live concert sector, Live Nation Entertainment dominates the market as the world\u2019s largest live event operator, with annual revenues exceeding $25 billion. Michael Rapino, a Canadian citizen of Italian and Catholic descent, has led the company since 2005. The second major player is AEG Presents, founded by Philip Frederick Anschutz. Anschutz is an 86-year-old American billionaire with ties to the evangelical community and the Republican Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The facts also disprove the claim that artists remain silent on Israel and Gaza out of fear.

In 2025, for example, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day wore a Palestinian flag onstage at the Coachella festival in California and altered the lyrics of his songs to show his support for the Palestinian cause.
Billie Eilish, a young American singer who has supported the Artists4Ceasefire movement since 2024 and is one of the world’s most popular artists, publicly criticized the Israeli plan for Gaza proposed by Defense Minister Israel Katz in July 2025, calling it “horrible.” Fontaines D.C., winners of the 2024 Rolling Stone UK Awards, criticized the Netanyahu government from the stage. Ariana Grande, the victim of an Islamist terrorist attack that claimed 22 lives at her concert in Manchester in May 2023, has sold out every tour date in recent years and raised funds for the Palestinian cause. Rosal\u00eda, Sony\u2019s top artist in the last quarter of 2025, took a public stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people after facing backlash for her silence. Bono and Bruce Springsteen, whom Zucchero cited as examples of courageous artists, have both criticized Netanyahu but also condemned Hamas for the October 7 massacre. This detail was not shared with journalists in the videos of Zucchero\u2019s press conference.
None of these artists lost their contracts. None had a tour canceled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, there is a different issue in the relationship between music and the Jewish world.
In November 2025, the Combat Antisemitism Movement denounced major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and YouTube, for failing to remove songs that glorify violence against Jews and Israelis. These songs include calls for the “globalization of the intifada,” celebrations of Iranian missiles on Tel Aviv, and calls for “straight, gay, and trans” people to bomb the White City. Some of these tracks have garnered millions of streams.
