[\u2026] But we Jews, scattered all around the world, we have so many peripheries that we don\u2019t actually have anything else than peripheries. Everywhere, we live on the fringes, [\u2026] everywhere, we meet with foreign cultures\u201d. Today, these words do not only have the meaning their socialist-zionist authors gave them. In times of peace, the \u201cperipheries\u201d, the \u201cfringes\u201d and the \u201cboundaries\u201d were porous and permeable points of human and cultural exchange. Nowadays, they turned into the \u201ccentre\u201d of humanities research.
