The Colors of Jewish Italy Debut at Uffizi

The exhibition "All the colors of Jewish Italy. Precious fabrics from ancient Jerusalem to modern prêt-à-porter" was inaugurated at the Uffizi Galleries, on Wednesday. The exhibition is curated by director of the Jewish Museum of Florence, Dora Liscia Bemporad and director of the Jewish Museum of Rome, Olga Melasecchi.

Treasures from the past on display in Bologna

The extraordinary artefacts found in the newly rediscovered Jewish cemetery in Bologna, one of the largest medieval Jewish cemeteries in the world, are finally on display at the Jewish Museum in Bologna.
After years of studies and restoration, they are presented in the exhibition, “The House of Life. Jewelry and Stories around the ancient Jewish cemetery of Bologna," curated and organized by the Jewish Museum of Bologna, the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the Metropolitan City of Bologna and with the collaboration of the local Jewish Community.

Balagan Cafè festival kicks off in Florence

The seventh edition of Balagan Cafè was inaugurated in Florence on Thursday.
The festival takes place in the garden of the synagogue and presents public concerts, lectures, roundtables and performances that explore Jewish tradition and the encounter between cultures.

Le Met autorisé à garder une œuvre de Picasso vendue par un Juif
fuyant la Shoah

Un tableau de Picasso vendu l’équivalent de 10 000 euros par un homme d’affaires juif-allemand alors qu’il fuyait les nazis pourra rester entre les murs du Metropolitan Museum of Art de New York, a jugé un tribunal.
Ce dernier a rejeté l’appel de l’arrière petite-nièce de Paul Leffmann, statuant que sa famille avait attendu trop longtemps pour demander à récupérer « L’Acteur » de  Picasso.
Il serait injuste de forcer le Met à le céder, a estimé mercredi le tribunal situé à Manhattan, d’après Reuters.
Le tableau vaudrait près de 100 millions de dollars.

Germany to return Nazi-stolen painting
Vase of Flowers to Italy

Vase of Flowers, estimated to be worth millions of euros, has been in the hands of a German family.
In January Uffizi head Eike Schmidt said Germany had a "moral duty" to help bring it back to the museum.
Dutch master Jan van Huysum painted the still life and it was first displayed in Florence in 1824.
German troops stole the work as they retreated north during World War Two.
