Arbib has served as president of the Jewish Community of Ferrara (Emilia-Romagna) since 2019. He was reelected in March for a third term. At the end of March, his term was renewed for a third time. As in his previous term, Vice President Andrea Pesaro and Councilor Shmuel Lampronti will join him on the Council. Born in Tripoli, Libya, in 1955, Arbib worked as a hospital technician and is now retired. His goals include reopening the museum and improving the structures damaged by the 2012 earthquake that hit Central Northern Italy, particularly the Emilia-Romagna region. The project focuses on the building in Via Mazzini, the heart of Jewish life in Ferrara where members and friends gather. “We are a small but active Jewish community. We actively participate in historical and cultural events and cultivate a collaborative and respectful relationship with the municipality,” Arbib explained.
The structural work should begin soon and be completed within the year. Thanks to grants from Invitalia and the Rothschild Foundation, Arbib will also support digitizing the Jewish community’s historical documents. “The project will reinforce our museum and our identity,” Arbib said.
