The Reality of Israel
By Guido Vitale*

As announced in the last issue of Pagine Ebraiche, where two pages where already under the new name, soon there will be another instrument to understand Israel. A new and diverse window on the “Reality of Israel” will be opened soon. As the name implies, it will be a new tool to see what Israel really is. Difficult? Boring? Too complex for those who are used to only put up slogans? Maybe. And yet, does anyone know a better way to understand and defend Israel?

*Guido Vitale is the editor-in-chief of Pagine Ebraiche.

A New Center for Jewish Life
in Paris

By Francesca Matalon

The European Center for Judaism, the new Jewish cultural center which is scheduled to open in Paris in 2017 with government funds, represents “the best answer to those who think that the future of French Jews lies elsewhere,” French President Francois Hollande said.
The future of European Jewry was the main focus of Hollande’s meeting with Moshe Kantor, the president of the European Jewish Congress, last Monday at the Elysée Palace, where Kantor was appointed Officer of the Légion d’Honneur, the highest French national honor.
“French Jews deserve to live here, to stay here, and to be safe and secure,” Hollande said.

DafDaf, Colors for the Summer

By Ada Treves

Summer, holidays, vacation… long days to fill. So, young readers, fill your sketch-book with ideas and colours, it will be a joy and a thing of beauty. That is the idea conveyed by the cover of the new issue of DafDaf, the Jewish magazine for kids. Number 58 is the second issue of this last Summer series, which every year offers young readers pages that are even more playful than usual. So the cover relates to the idea, explained in page 16, of a “non-school diary,” or a “book of non-tasks” to be filled with… anything. Colours, drawings, notes, collage, there’s no limit to Summer art.
