Venice Jewish Museum to undergo
major renovations

Renovations at the Jewish Museum of Venice will kick off in the fall, after the period of the Jewish holidays.
Over three years, the goal is to create a place even more up to the task, safer as well as more modern and captivating.
The expansion and revitalization project for the Jewish Museum of Venice adopted by the city council and presented last week represents a fresh exciting challenge, both architectural and cultural.

Sami Modiano turns 90,
is awarded knighthood

Auschwitz survivor Sami Modiano turned 90 last week and was awarded a knighthood by Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
“I have a mission: to make sure that what has happened does not happen again. I will do it until the Lord gives me the chance," Modiano often explains. It was to honor his unwavering commitment to remembrance that Mattarella granted him the title of Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic, one of the highest conferred by Italy.

Italian director Bellocchio to devote movie
to Edgardo Mortara

Italian prominent director Marco Bellocchio will devote a movie to the story of Edgardo Mortara, the Jewish six-year-old kidnapped by the Church in 1858 and forced to convert to Christianity.
In an interview published by the Italian daily La Repubblica, Bellocchio explained that he decided to work on the project after learning that Steven Spielberg had given up the idea after years of preparations.

Et donc, à la fin, c’est le président Andrzej Duda qui a remporté le ballottage des élections présidentielles en Pologne, où il s’est confronté avec Rafael Trzaskowski, le maire de Varsovie. Le premier est un anti-européen déterminé proche de la droite ultranationaliste et antisémite de Kaczyński, à savoir l’homme politique qui lors de la campagne électorale a accusé Trzaskowski de vouloir « vendre le pays aux Juifs ».

Einstein family's water mill in Italy
to produce electricity again

While most of the structure was demolished decades ago, a new water mill to produce electricity is currently being built in the exact same spot.
The water mill built by the Einstein family in the village of Canneto sull’Oglio in northern Italy at the end of the 19th century will be used again to produce electricity, Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported Sunday.
Not everyone is familiar with the short Italian chapter of the Nobel Prize winner’s life.
