Nethanyahu in the Synagogue of Rome
"Israel and the Diaspora are one people"

In Rome, where the Jewish people have been marked "by great tragedies but also successes, we must remember that we are all brothers and sisters. We must remember it especially in these days of debate and disagreements in Israel: we have a common past and a shared future. For this reason, we must calm the situation and find an agreement. For this reason, all initiatives are welcome, including that of the President of Israel, to reach the broadest possible agreement in order to be able to continue together as brothers and sisters". So Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking on Thursday in the Spanish Temple of the Jewish Community of Rome. In his speech, the PM reaffirmed the friendship between Italy and Israel, talked of the necessity to counter Iran's nuclear race, and highlighted the commitment to broadening relations with Arab countries, specifically with the Saudi Arabia. After the Prime Minister, the President of the Jewish community of Rome Ruth Dureghello, the President of the Union of the Italian Jewish Communities Noemi Di Segni, and Rabbi of Rome Riccardo Di Segni took the floor.

NETHANYAHU IN THE SYNAGOGUE OF ROME/ REMARKS BY UCEI PRESIDENT

"Dialectics should reflect Jewish values"

"Italian Jews have been following the Israeli reality day by day, minute by minute, for months, years, decades, forever, as they feel part of the great Zionist dream and the building of the Jewish State which we witness passionately. Israel is part of our identity and destiny". These are the words of Noemi Di Segni, President of the Union of the Italian Jewish Communities, in welcoming the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu to the Great Synagogue of Rome.
She greeted him on behalf of the 21 Italian Communities "with the hope that the meetings scheduled with the representatives of the Italian government will be productive and that the prolific cooperation between Italy and Israel will continue to bear fruit for the benefit of both our countries".
During her speech, among other things, Di Segni highlighted: "I can assure you, mister Prime Minister, that the feeling of transport, visceral identification and the desire to defend the rights and the valorisation of Israel is shared by every one of my coreligionists, in every community. Precisely for this reason, the scrutiny over the decisions that are being made – that translate into legislative proposals and ministerial guidelines – is strict and felt as a moral duty. As a Jewish duty".

The three chimeras of Amitai Romm

Amitai Romm was born in Jerusalem in 1985 and currently lives and works in Denmark. His artistic research revolves around hybridization between nature and the artifices of technology, mediated by science. Therefore, being the research strained between plant life and sensors, data collection processes speculate on the perception of this clash-encounter.
In his first exhibition in Florence, held two years ago at the Veda Gallery, Romm installed a small suction pump, connected to a PVC foil placed at the center of the gallery, on display, facing the street. The vacuum between the two surfaces held still, hanging in the air, an etrog (citron) grew with Mehadrin Kashrut process and brought in directly from Calabria, inside a wrapping without space nor air. In that intersection, resembling a hospital device, components were subject to a tension: what is shown meets the eye. In the new ongoing exhibition titled Graft, in the wide space of the Veda gallery until March 25th, that has since moved from the old town to the citadel of culture to the former Manifattura Tabacchi, Ami installs, hangs on the walls of the room suggestive works that challenge the public to interpret it in their own way.

Italian-Jewish leader denies attacking Netanyahu, calls for discourse

Noemi di Segni, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, denied specifically attacking Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in her speech on Thursday, in an Interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. "I did not address harsh criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. I would like not to be included in the oppositional dialectic for or against the government, but to remain a voice inviting everyone to be responsible, above all those who govern. I wanted to give a voice to those who feel lost in the chaos of mutual accusations," Di Segni said.
