NEWS The UCEI President Congratulates Mogherini

gattegna“I would like to congratulate Minister Federica Mogherini on her prestigious appointment within the European Union” reads a statement issued by the president of the Italian Union of Jewish Communities, Renzo Gattegna, after Ms. Mogherini was appointed High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
“It is a position that brings prestige to Italy and acknowledges its leading role in conflict resolution and in adopting policies pursuing peace, as well as the development and welfare of the world’s population. The challenges that await the Honorable Ms. Mogherini are many and cover a wide range of opportunities and dangers, as she herself stated during her press conference: rom the growing threat of religious fundamentalists to regional conflicts, from tensions that have arisen within Europe itself to the Middle East where repeated dramas are affecting persecuted minorities who lack the most fundamental rights.
Our wish is that the commitment to diplomacy will grow stronger and be better understood and appreciated”.
