NEWS Italy Marks Holocaust Remembrance Day

Thousands of initiatives all over the country commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day in Italy. Lectures, ceremonies, concerts and debates took place in virtually every major city, and in many smaller towns and villages.
In Rome, in addition to the national ceremony at the Quirinale Palace with the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella, for the fourth consecutive year, the Union of Italian Jewish Communities and the Presidency of the Ministers Council organized a concert at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, featuring the melodies composed in the Italian camp of Ferramonti.
In Milan, many events were organized by the Shoah Memorial, which was also visited by thousands of people.
Institutions and private citizens organized events in Turin, Venice, Trieste, Florence, Bologna, Verona.
Also the Italian Embassy in Israel honored the Day with a commemoration at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
January 27 was selected as the Holocaust Remembrance Day in Italy in 2000.
