ROME AND MILAN – In the square against antisemitism

“Minimizing is a classic form of antisemitism. During the Holocaust, there was also minimization, with people saying Jews were exaggerating. We are not exaggerating. This is an extremely dangerous situation,” warned Chief Rabbi of Milan, Alfonso Arbib, speaking to a crowd of several hundred in San Babila square. The Milan gathering, organized by the Jewish Community, the Italy-Israel Association, Friends of Israel, and the Setteottobre (October seven) association, was a show of solidarity following violence after the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv football match in Amsterdam.
The event’s flyer referred to “Islamist Nazism”, comparing the recent incidents to Kristallnacht, the Nazi pogrom that occurred 86 years ago. Many testimonies were shared during the gathering. Setteottobre also organized another event in Rome’s Largo di Torre Argentina on Monday evening, with the support of UCEI and the local Jewish community. The demonstration aimed to stand “against antisemitism, against radical Islamism, against indifference, and for freedom.”
