CULTURE – Another post stamp dedicated to an antisemite. An inquiry
Maffeo Pantaleoni, a prominent Italian economist and jurist of the early 20th century, was also a relentless antisemite dedicated to spreading the lies of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion’s. Despite his notable contributions to economics, the stain of blatant antisemitism continues to taint his legacy. Nonetheless, on October 29, the Italian Ministry of Business and Made in Italy issued a commemorative stamp honoring Pantaleoni on the 100th anniversary of his birth. This decision has sparked a parliamentary inquiry by Senator Dario Parrini (Democratic Party). “For the second time in less than five months, bypassing the Philatelic Council, which includes experts meant to ensure the historical accuracy of such dedications, the government led by Giorgia Meloni has dedicated a national stamp to a figure with openly and profoundly antisemitic views,” said Parrini. “This is a very serious matter.”
In June, Senator Parrini noted, a stamp was issued to honor “Italo Foschi, a Fascist squad member and persecutor of Jews with the Republic of Salò, the Nazi puppet state in northern Italy led from 1943 to 1945 by Mussolini after his ousting). Now, Pantaleoni is similarly honored, despite his role in promoting the publication in Italy of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion’s. In his inquiry, Parrini asked Minister of Business and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso to revoke the stamps honoring Foschi and Pantaleoni.
