ROME – The 18th edition of Ebraica Festival back to the Jewish Quarter
From June 22 to 25, the 18th edition of the International Culture Festival Ebraica returned to Rome’s Jewish Quarter. Organized by Ariela Piattelli, Raffaella Spizzichino, and Marco Panella for the Jewish Community of Rome, the festival offers an annual exploration of Jewish identity through art and dialogue. This year’s theme, “A(Live),” was a “direct call to life, to the value of live performances, and a hymn to the richness of culture as a force that unites, tells stories, deals with the challenges of the present, and anticipates the future.” During the festival, tribute was paid to Arpad Weisz, the prominent Hungarian football coach who was assassinated by the Nazis in Auschwitz. A debate about transmitting memory to new generations concluded the event. On June 25, Chief Rabbi of Rome Riccardo Di Segni discussed “The Value of Us. Singular at Plural.” The objective of the dialogue was “to intertwine different roots, cultures, faiths, and experiences in a common thread inspired by the future we want for ourselves, our children, and our children’s children.”
