NEWS Italian Jews Mobilize to Help Israel after Fires

The Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI) has been working with the Israeli authorities to provide support and assistance to the country savaged by fire. 
 
“Every inch of the land of Israel has been tilled with love and care. Every inch is disputed, every plot threatened by danger. We want to express our solidarity to the Israeli people and our pain for the fires that are devastating and threatening the civilian population and the hard work of so many years,” UCEI president Noemi Di Segni declared in a statement. 
 
The UCEI promotes a fund-raising campaign to support the people in need. 
 
Italy has been among the countries which offered Israel help by sending people and equipment to put out the fires.
 
“We denounce the total lack of values of those who have started the fires. Furthermore, we affirm the scrupulousness of our capacities and hope,” Di Segni added. “We can’t remain silent. If today our land burns at the hands of those who kindle the flames of hatred and aim at burning our future, tomorrow the flames risk reaching all the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, including the ones near us. For this reason, it is important to act with determination, and not only in order to put out the fires.”
