NEWS Holocaust Survivor and Senator Liliana Segre asks Minister of Interior to Prevent Neo-Fascist Gathering
Liliana Segre, Italian Holocaust survivor and senator has asked the Minister of Interior and Northern League leader Matteo Salvini to prevent a gathering organized by the far right group Lealtà e azione (Loyalty and Action).
“It is requested to know whether the Minister is aware of the danger of the mentioned event; and whether he does not think it necessary to revoke the authorization. This, in order to avert the carrying out of an initiative of a clear anti-Constitutional nature that offends the fundamental values of our Republic and of any form of civil coexistence”, Segre wrote.
Notwithstanding, the gathering called “Festa del Sole” (Sun Festival) took place on July 6 and 7 in the town of Abbiategrasso, on the outskirts of Milan in a public location.
Some representatives of the Northern League defended the event.
“This is a legal rally with debates between civil people. I don’t see anything wrong with it; on the contrary, if we often think how young people are not interested in politics…” said MP Carlo Fidanza, as reported by Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
On Saturday, about 400 people gathered in Abbiategrasso to protest the rally, under the banner “Fascism, never again”.
