ROME- Fadlun: Fascist salutes, an unacceptable outrage
The president of Rome’s Jewish community, Victor Fadlun, condemned as “an unacceptable outrage” the Fascist salutes at a ceremony marking the 46th anniversary of the deaths of three far-right activists. The ceremony took place outside the former headquarters of the Italian neo-fascist Italian Social Movement in Via Acca Larentia in Rome, where three members of the youth wing were killed on January 7, 1978. “The Roman salute is an unacceptable insult and outrage, particularly to the memory of all victims of Nazi-fascism,” stated Fadlun. “For the Jewish community in Rome, that gesture, with its deeply symbolic history, reopens old wounds and signifies renewed suffering across generations. It is inconceivable that it could be considered an appropriate tribute at any commemoration.” Hundreds of far-right militants participated in the ceremony, performing Fascist salutes and shouting ” present”. The videos and footage from the event are currently under investigation by the Digos agents. Commemorations for the Acca Larentia killings, also known in Italy as the Acca Larentia massacre, take place each year and are controversial.
