ROME – General Pasquale Angelosanto new national antisemitism coordinator
General Pasquale Angelosanto is to be appointed as the national coordinator for the fight against antisemitism, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced. Former commander of the Carabinieri military police Special Operations Group (ROS) from 2017 to 2023, General Angelosanto replaces Prefect Giuseppe Pecoraro, who “has resigned for personal reasons,” Meloni said. Regarding General Angelosanto, he is “a very authoritative figure to deal with this matter,” Meloni told reporters during her end-of-year press conference. Angelosanto in most known for the operation that brought to arrest Italy’s most-wanted Mafia leader Matteo Messina Denaro after years on the run.
