ITALY-ISRAEL – Israeli President Herzog: Italy, a true friend

“Thanks to Italian President Sergio Mattarella, a true friend of Israel, for the warm welcome. We appreciate the unique relationship between Israel and Italy, especially in this difficult time,” said Israeli President Isaac Herzog during his one-day mission to Rome, where he also met with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also took part in the talks. Mattarella emphasized the “strong friendship” between Italy and Israel. The talks focused on the need for the release of the hostages taken by Hamas in the October 7 attacks, respect of humanitarian rights in Gaza, two-state solution and the need to prevent the current conflict from expanding. Speaking with Pagine Ebraiche, a member of the delegation described Herzog’s meeting with Mattarella and Tajani as “very positive.” Israel’s President thanked Italy “for its moral clarity and for standing by us as we continue to address” Hamas terrorism driven by Iran and “as we work tirelessly to bring back the hostages.”
