APRIL 25 – Pro-Palestinians protest the Jewish Brigade in Rome

“Anti-fascists forever.” On the 80th anniversary of Italy’s liberation from Nazi Fascism, the ceremony organized by the Jewish institutions at Porta San Paolo in Rome, began under this banner. A commemorative wreath by the UCEI and the Jewish Community of Rome was placed at the head of the march, and impressive security measures separated it from a pro-Palestinian post. The latter chanted “Assassins! Assassins!” and called for a new Intifadah, the Palestinian terroristic insurrection that has claimed the lives of thousands over times.
Some of the participants also displayed the green flag of terror group Hamas. “No one will take away our right to honor the Jewish Brigade and Jewish partisans, along with non-Jewish partisans and the allies who liberated Italy,” said the President of the Jewish Community of Rome, Victor Fadlun. April 25, he added, is means memory, gratitude and identity. But it also marks a limit. “After October 7, the loneliness came. But we do not retreat or allow the memory will be distorted or used against us.”
Today, added the Presidente of UCEI, Noemi Di Segni, “we celebrate liberation” and the constitutional values that came with it. However, she added referring to the pro-Palestinian group, “it is not possible in the name of freedom to protest and teach hatred anywhere and to anyone.” April 25 is a day of celebration, she concluded, “but also of responsibility. We are concerned about the echoes of the past combined with today’s movements, the return of threats to destabilize freedom and democracy, and I am referring to Islamic fundamentalism and terrorism.”
Ceremonies commemorating April 25 were held by many Italian Jewish Communities.
