After Hamas Network Is Dismantled, Jewish Community Reacts

For a long time, Jewish institutions have warned the public about the infiltration of Islamic radicalism into democratic societies by disguising hatred as solidarity. On Saturday, this was confirmed by the arrest of nine people in Italy suspected of funding Hamas through local charities. “Months of investigations have finally shed light on donations collected under the pretense of compassion, which have instead been skillfully betrayed,” remarked UCEI president Noemi Di Segni, who thanked law enforcement and judicial authorities “for their relentless commitment.”

“No more alibis for those who hypocritically use the humanitarian arm as a cover for terrorist activities,” wrote the president of Rome’s Jewish Community, Victor Fadlun, on X. “The time has come for everyone to acknowledge that the October 7 attack and the Gaza war would never have happened without millions of funds from abroad.” “Italian law enforcement has dismantled a Hamas network that has been operating in Italy for many years,” said Israel’s ambassador to Italy, Jonathan Peled. He thanked the authorities for their important work against the infiltration of radical Islamists.”

The alleged pro-Hamas network was supposedly led by Mohammad Hannoun, president of the Palestinian Association in Italy. “For years, we have been denouncing his closeness to Hamas based on public sources, such as events, interviews, press releases, and news,” said Davide Romano, director of the Jewish Brigade Museum in Milan. “We have been denouncing this drift for a long time, but we were unheard by parts of the Democratic Party, the Five Star Movement, and the Greens and Left Alliance (AVS).”
