Passover: UCEI Renovates Its Solidarity

Last week, the Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI) distributed 282 packages of kosher-for-Passover products to individuals and families in need who are followed by the social services. “This year, we began earlier than is usual,” said UCEI’s vice president Milo Hasbani. “Families have already received their packages and can now prepare for the Seder, the ritual meal at the beginning of the holiday, with ease.” Hasbani explained that the initiative is part of an ongoing project. “The work continues with the newly elected UCEI Councilor of Social Affairs, Alessandro Sermoneta, who participated with the previous executive board. This continuity has allowed us to carry on the initiative efficiently, thanks also to a donor who renewed their pledge.”

The Passover project’s reach extends beyond Italy. “We have renewed our intervention in Egypt, where the small Jewish community does not receive support from the embassy for products like matzo (the unleavened bread traditionally eaten during Passover).” Therefore, a representative of the Cairo Jewish community flew to Italy to pick up the goods. He returned with three suitcases containing 40 kilos of products, such as matzos, wine, and other required foods. “The UCEI’s continued presence is important. It really means helping those in need,” concluded Hasbani.
