Waiting for the Golem, artists’ pieces on display
The Jewish complex of Casale Monferrato returned to host one of the various exhibitions linked to CasaleComics&Games, the event in the city center that recently has engaged the citizens throughout the past weekend. Titled Aspettando il Golem (Waiting for the Golem), the exhibition is dedicated to an extraordinary team of illustrators from Orecchio Acerbo, a publishing house of children’s fiction renowned not only for the number of awards received in this field (many are the Andersen Awards it boasts), but also for having various works involving Jewish history and tradition in its backlist.
In Sala Carmi, more than 50 original pieces by Alice Barberini, Isabella Labate and Maurizio Quarello lead us with their poetry through the tale of the Golem of Prague, but also through the vicissitudes of children called to defend their imagination from the darkest side of the story.
In this regard, Ada Treves, curator of the exhibition together with Paolo Cesari, said: “Orecchio Acerbo isn’t something to be trifled with: their aim is to pour beauty and meaning in every volume through the work of illustrators capable of lighting up words. It’s precisely the young age of their audience that stresses the importance of this process. Their readers grow page after page. And they pay particular attention to the stories: difficult, painful plots, always told with a delicacy that overcomes every obstacle and persuades the many who, sadly, still think that children can only listen to light-hearted stories”.
The exhibition will remain open until 11 June.
