The director of the Nahon Museum of Italian Jewish Art in Jerusalem Andreina Contessa has been appointed director of the Miramare Castle Museum and Natural Park in Trieste by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage.

Contessa paid a visit to Miramare Castle at the beginning of March. She was accompanied by the editor in chief of the newsroom of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, Guido Vitale, and she also met with the leaders of the Jewish Communities of Trieste and visited the synagogue.

The appointment also marks the acknowledgement by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage of the importance of the work carried out by the Italian community in Israel. The work includes running the Nahon Museum and the Italian Synagogue, a jewel in the Jerusalem city center, with treasures taken from the ancient Italian synagogue of Conegliano Veneto to Israel.

The Ministry has also granted the Miramare Museum financial and managerial autonomy, a status granted only to the most crucial cultural institutions.
